4FKg p|Y0 `q1-yH0~4 Transmission: Please receive: 揙NE OF 2008抯 VERY BEST!? Got it? Well, come in
#sbW^Q'I
give a try, give a listen ?it抯 all here below if you don抰 believe. Stop what
r "\<+$ 7 yr doing ?just dig the grooves, the sounds.
GW%!?mJ 'kg~#cf/+ Now, Greg Pope is the leader of Edmund抯 Crown, long a fave here at Not Lame but
3jto$_3'w this 揚opmonster?indeed!) thing? Gawd, Lawdie, it抯 freakin?great! Listen to
1
7 iw`@ Track #3 and #2 below for a bit of The Shazam. But there抯 so much here for
WW7 E*kc *all* pop fans. Yes, The Shazam, Matthew Sweet, The Replacements(at their
DLe>EU;vS finest!), The Grays(track #1 below), Terry Anderson or Bill Lloyd(Track #6) and
/^WawH6)6 plenty of more of that where this comes from! Pope started this out seeking the
|>>^Mol help of others with this solo reach, but scheduled proved to be tough with
D (e,R9hPU buddies and he ended up playing all the instruments here ?to its great credit,
XZ3M~cD q it sounds like a band at work here there抯 so much connection of the instruments
gx C`Ml to the material. Big 憃le Talent? You betcha ?in spades.
:z|$K^)7Z W4h ]4X AbsolutePowerPopBlog nails it(as usual): 揚ope lets loose a total of 16 tracks
sp0_f;bC here but there really isn't any filler. Opener "Sky Burn Down" lets you know
)[y
KO you're not in Kansas (or at least Tennessee) any more as he revs up a Robert
&iy7It Pollard-style rocker in both sound and length (2:08). "I Got a Life" is another
jDj=a->e^ infectious barnburner which recalls both Matthew Sweet and The Who in places,
UyF;sw while "Lost My Friend" and "Playing Nashville" travel in more familiar Edmund's
D? H|O[ Crown territory. "The Only Thing I've Got" also clocks in around 2 minutes, and
Us> has a definite Alex-Chilton-by-way-of-Paul-Westerberg vibe. Other standouts
piIGSC include the aching Jon Brionesque pop of "Only One You", the jangly "Footpath",
(?.h<v1} the bright Americana-influenced "Little Things", and "Reason With You", another
?b(DDQMf track that would have fit on nicely on Regrets of a Company Man(Edmund抯 Crown).

A real tour-de-force and with Halloween approaching, this Popmonster will be
4(,X. GVY/ scaring its way up my year-end list.?MASSIVELY, PROFUSELY Extremely Highly
