X?m" 86L polished pop perfection that brings back memories of the

uG-L jaunty hits of the Housemartins and their catalogue of
]njObU)[zr intelligent and catchy songs. "I Think I'm Bleeding" has an
u9-:/<R#}y underlying country flavour to it. Whilst once again presented
3v~804kWB as a happy little song, there is more than a touch of
tOn 6 bitterness in his words. Funnily enough, the rather twee "The
~RlsgtX" Toothbrush Song" would also make a quality country song due to
:A +nmz!z its dry lyrics even if a cowboy would feel the need to
TQXp9j uK accompany such emotions with bourbon rather than sparkling
ZCdlTdY mineral water.
.Ux bwTup u\LbPk The pace picks up with the title track "Off the Radar" that
ZbmBwW_ 7 truly highlights Mr Kerr's pop sensibilities and offsets his
*V@>E2@ laidback vocal delivery with some spirited guitar. Loves lost
*fz]Q>2g a and won (mostly lost though? and a sense of reflection on his
O$< m(~[S younger years seem a common theme to the songs in this album
dj>ZHdTn and, indeed, regret is once more evident in "Is It Too Late to
qa>Z?/w Work for NASA" even if it is disguised here with wry humour.
:Q~Rb<']{x If Bluesbunny closes his eyes, on "Mystery Star" Ally Kerr
"x;|li3; seems to transform himself into Edinburgh master popsters
$K_G|Wyi Dropkick and there are certainly worse things to be than that.
tw<mZd2H If Bluesbunny had to pick a favourite track, it would probably
:Nr y | be "Amorino" evoking, as it does, the melancholic pleasures of
hFLD2 < heartbreak.
]3u$%v c I.C,y\ The thing that impresses most about this album is the songs
,{tz%\, % themselves. Well crafted and melodic with sharp and observant
s{QS2 G$5 lyrics, they are however presented as a whole lot fluffier
l,}^<P] than they actually are. It must be Ally Kerr's choice to do so
u 2)#Ml but it does seem that he is deliberately avoiding giving any
"pa}']7# kind of offense. Maybe he never gets angry himself - although
K<BS%~,I his words suggest otherwise -but Bluesbunny feels that he is
(z8^^j[ doing his own songs a disservice here by sprinkling an inch of
ZvQ~K(3 icing sugar on everything. It is not necessary for everything
f( %r)% in life to have a cherry on top for it to be appetising.

n ]K`ofjl^ Overall, this is a happy, upbeat album that is just a bit too
8w 2$H polite and well mannered to try and force itself upon your

In3},x +$ your average Starbuck's decaf latte but it is perhaps fair
G1 :*F8q comment to say that the omnipresent sugar coating will suit
7W7!X\0Y his fans. However, and maybe this is a reviewer thing, a bit
5.]eF$x2 of fire and even some unpredictability would have been
<Z0 N)0| welcome. Then again, the Bluesbunny was always a quadruple
7 3 Oo; espresso kind of guy.
