y underlying country flavour to it. Whilst once again presented
SUvHLOA as a happy little song, there is more than a touch of
EcP"GO5 bitterness in his words. Funnily enough, the rather twee "The
`%rqQnVB Toothbrush Song" would also make a quality country song due to
c.d*DM}W its dry lyrics even if a cowboy would feel the need to
Be}Cj(C accompany such emotions with bourbon rather than sparkling
f)gA.Rz mineral water.

XR !m^W tF The pace picks up with the title track "Off the Radar" that
!q$IB?8 truly highlights Mr Kerr's pop sensibilities and offsets his
McA, laidback vocal delivery with some spirited guitar. Loves lost
w`i3B@w and won (mostly lost though? and a sense of reflection on his
?2.< y_1 younger years seem a common theme to the songs in this album
^8We}bs-c and, indeed, regret is once more evident in "Is It Too Late to
;.m"y- Work for NASA" even if it is disguised here with wry humour.

If Bluesbunny closes his eyes, on "Mystery Star" Ally Kerr

$L ;7SY? If Bluesbunny had to pick a favourite track, it would probably
9I.="b=J) be "Amorino" evoking, as it does, the melancholic pleasures of
6B|IbQ^ heartbreak.
"y5c)l(Rg x+^iEj`gk The thing that impresses most about this album is the songs
B;_M52-B themselves. Well crafted and melodic with sharp and observant
et)A$'Q lyrics, they are however presented as a whole lot fluffier
`) K1[& than they actually are. It must be Ally Kerr's choice to do so
-w^E~J0*L but it does seem that he is deliberately avoiding giving any
R z%+E0 kind of offense. Maybe he never gets angry himself - although
Z?1.Y7Npr his words suggest otherwise -but Bluesbunny feels that he is
8]+hfB/ doing his own songs a disservice here by sprinkling an inch of
U%U%a,rA5s icing sugar on everything. It is not necessary for everything
DTgF,c in life to have a cherry on top for it to be appetising.

2luTR Q Overall, this is a happy, upbeat album that is just a bit too
)I`B +c: polite and well mannered to try and force itself upon your
@K2q *d affections. The production and arrangements are smoother than
J`V7FlM your average Starbuck's decaf latte but it is perhaps fair
N(&, +KJ) comment to say that the omnipresent sugar coating will suit
:'a |cjq his fans. However, and maybe this is a reviewer thing, a bit
lHr?sMt of fire and even some unpredictability would have been
8 w^ i welcome. Then again, the Bluesbunny was always a quadruple
o{nBt xZ" espresso kind of guy.
