Ready your ears, if you can, for the mind-blowing, >1qum'
astounding, sonic boom that is Yo Majesty's first x MFo
full release. This Florida duo takes the attitude cCx_tGR"
of Kelis, mixes it with M.I.A. and Missy and takes 0;L.h|R T(
it to the limit?before pushing right through it. Gc=uKQ+\V

Though they've been making music since 2000, it's )GKY#O09x9
only in the last 12 months that things have really &R))c|>OT&
taken off for Yo Majesty. Since signing to Domino ~c=F$M^"c
Records, performances at SXSW07 and supporting The 9+ A~(
Gossip and CSS have led to complete media hysteria. b&*)C#7/T
NME put them in their 'top 11 bands of 2008' and zEKVyZd*{
they also featured in a list of 'the 25 most ;lQ>>[*
exciting artists in America right now'. l`A

It's fair to say this is not going to be a release [V E>{4]W
that sinks without trace. But if anyone can handle U;=1v:~d
that wave of frenzy and the accompanying pressure, m@W>ku
it's Shunda K and Jwl B. Rapper Shunda first met 489xoP
gospel singer Jwl in a club 杢heir fitting [7\x(W-:@>
philosophy is ''church in the morning, club at !A:d9 k
night''. gh-i|i,

Don't be fooled by their gender: there is nothing Db*&'32W
girly about this Basement Jaxx co-produced album. $=5kn>[_Z%
Opener F***ed Up is pure expletive-ridden vitriol, C{>dE:*K^
with lyrics screaming, ''hit me I want some C^fn[plL
attention'' juxtaposed with soppy ''I love you''s. FEi@MJJ\e
Take the rage in Kelis' Caught Out There and 3*E] :l_
multiply it by ten. *LEI@

These are punchy, lyric driven tracks on the whole 0_N.s5~N
?though there are some great melodies like Buy RgVnx]IF
Love and Don抰 Let Go. The album title is fitting - -6xh
this could be the soundtrack for a film set in 2500 s &f\gp1
AD where women rule. The oozy bassline on Never Be ')TS'p,n
Afraid certainly feels out of this world. /z)Nz2W

They may look like they抎 be more at home outside V0G[f}tm'
the school gates, but don抰 judge a book by its qJJ},4}
cover. They've been compared to Public Enemy and >=86*U~
Outkast and credited with ''coining a female M[C)b\
equivalent of macho'' but Yo Majesty are making and t)mc~M9w
breaking their own boundaries - like a new improved J(SGaHm@
Salt n Pepa for the Noughties. This brilliant, x2f=o|]D'
powerful hip hop never hits safe territory; it's a Os*s{2OvO
challenging listen which will more than reward 4Ik'beZqK
those brave enough to try it. X%T%N;P
