Described as “an anthem made for driving with the window down, foot to the floor”, this song is pure easy listening, its catchy tune and lyrical simplicity sure to make listeners tap their fingers on their steering wheels.

Ruebery, a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and singer with a rich, Robbie Williams-like voice, certainly knows how to create a catchy, crowd-pleasing tune.

His musical abilities are plainly evident upon hearing this debut album, which he wrote and co-produced himself, on which he played almost all the instruments, and that he released independently. Ruebery seems to have a knack for delivering instantly appealing songs and making it sound easy, a testament, no doubt, to his impressive musical background.

The lyrics are certainly wedding friendly: “For you, I live my life with you, it’s always love that brings us through”. Yes, it’s schmaltzy, but songs like this have paid the bills and then some for countless mainstream artists. Besides, Ruebery makes up for the generic lyrics with his lovely arrangement of the other musical elements, not least of all his beautiful, rich voice. Similarly, the great harmonies and strong vocals in ‘Burning Inside’ – a song about love and passion – make for a pleasant listen.

A breath is taken, a guitar starts up, and Ruebery asks, “Are you drowning? I can’t see you, wind and tide take you away”. However, Ruebery quickly puts the album back on its feel-good course towards a happy ending, concluding, “You run to me, the fear is over, the dream it fades, ease my pain”.
