,q#SAZ/N underlying country flavour to it. Whilst once again presented
!',%kvJI as a happy little song, there is more than a touch of
b/m.VL
bitterness in his words. Funnily enough, the rather twee "The
_+aR| AEC Toothbrush Song" would also make a quality country song due to
'{.4~: its dry lyrics even if a cowboy would feel the need to
4.wrY6+V accompany such emotions with bourbon rather than sparkling
X)iI] mineral water.
#"!ga)a%L Q <D_ QJ The pace picks up with the title track "Off the Radar" that
56c[$ q truly highlights Mr Kerr's pop sensibilities and offsets his
5vR])T/S0 laidback vocal delivery with some spirited guitar. Loves lost
z&9MkbH1 and won (mostly lost though? and a sense of reflection on his
O.QR 1 younger years seem a common theme to the songs in this album
`W@jo~ y< and, indeed, regret is once more evident in "Is It Too Late to

-}Uj^yF Work for NASA" even if it is disguised here with wry humour.
|4pl}:g/Z If Bluesbunny closes his eyes, on "Mystery Star" Ally Kerr
tw<Oy^ i seems to transform himself into Edinburgh master popsters

O%>*=h`P If Bluesbunny had to pick a favourite track, it would probably
ge?or]T1S be "Amorino" evoking, as it does, the melancholic pleasures of
Z8ivw\|M8 heartbreak.

EZ"i0u themselves. Well crafted and melodic with sharp and observant
Nr XIaN lyrics, they are however presented as a whole lot fluffier
j5 :4/vD than they actually are. It must be Ally Kerr's choice to do so
~F,Y BX but it does seem that he is deliberately avoiding giving any
d` flYNg4 kind of offense. Maybe he never gets angry himself - although
TW(X#T@Z6I his words suggest otherwise -but Bluesbunny feels that he is
{ ?jXPf doing his own songs a disservice here by sprinkling an inch of
]R}(CaT1 icing sugar on everything. It is not necessary for everything
yl@ Nyu in life to have a cherry on top for it to be appetising.
S _U |w9q 8LP WT! S Overall, this is a happy, upbeat album that is just a bit too
%B#T"=Cx polite and well mannered to try and force itself upon your
zY*~2|q,s affections. The production and arrangements are smoother than
Cc{{9Ud your average Starbuck's decaf latte but it is perhaps fair
Hb B8A#u comment to say that the omnipresent sugar coating will suit
]u-bJ his fans. However, and maybe this is a reviewer thing, a bit
AD`5:G of fire and even some unpredictability would have been

wu?ND welcome. Then again, the Bluesbunny was always a quadruple
