^ jaunty hits of the Housemartins and their catalogue of
E{E%nXR) intelligent and catchy songs. "I Think I'm Bleeding" has an
K*oWcsu underlying country flavour to it. Whilst once again presented
&+7G|4 !y as a happy little song, there is more than a touch of
J@Qw6J bitterness in his words. Funnily enough, the rather twee "The
psAdYEGk! Toothbrush Song" would also make a quality country song due to
>@St Kj its dry lyrics even if a cowboy would feel the need to
k?ksv+e\ accompany such emotions with bourbon rather than sparkling
(C!33s1 mineral water.
Uv(Uj3D M\jTeB"Z The pace picks up with the title track "Off the Radar" that
2Ls truly highlights Mr Kerr's pop sensibilities and offsets his
\7A6+[
`fa laidback vocal delivery with some spirited guitar. Loves lost
m'ykDK\B and won (mostly lost though? and a sense of reflection on his
om pkDl\E younger years seem a common theme to the songs in this album
AV^Sla7|_ and, indeed, regret is once more evident in "Is It Too Late to
zIgD R Work for NASA" even if it is disguised here with wry humour.
|T^c(RpOE If Bluesbunny closes his eyes, on "Mystery Star" Ally Kerr

seems to transform himself into Edinburgh master popsters

J;cTEB be "Amorino" evoking, as it does, the melancholic pleasures of

|n cQldBc The thing that impresses most about this album is the songs
:,BKB*a\ themselves. Well crafted and melodic with sharp and observant
H}B%OFI \+ lyrics, they are however presented as a whole lot fluffier

than they actually are. It must be Ally Kerr's choice to do so
0N19R 5NN8 but it does seem that he is deliberately avoiding giving any
yZ]u{LJS kind of offense. Maybe he never gets angry himself - although
TEi~X 2u his words suggest otherwise -but Bluesbunny feels that he is
c;pv< lX' doing his own songs a disservice here by sprinkling an inch of
V_Oj?MMp n icing sugar on everything. It is not necessary for everything
{expx<+4F in life to have a cherry on top for it to be appetising.
]7yr.4?a hIv8A_>@` Overall, this is a happy, upbeat album that is just a bit too
aZ{]t:] polite and well mannered to try and force itself upon your
Kt3 ]r:&J affections. The production and arrangements are smoother than
8RJ^e[?o( your average Starbuck's decaf latte but it is perhaps fair
y,QJy= ? comment to say that the omnipresent sugar coating will suit
;}k9YlQrN his fans. However, and maybe this is a reviewer thing, a bit
o 0'!u of fire and even some unpredictability would have been

:3 welcome. Then again, the Bluesbunny was always a quadruple
