s6D Pb_, underlying country flavour to it. Whilst once again presented
'8LHX6FXK as a happy little song, there is more than a touch of
%r@:7/ bitterness in his words. Funnily enough, the rather twee "The
zpy&\#Vc Toothbrush Song" would also make a quality country song due to
Gw#z: gX2 its dry lyrics even if a cowboy would feel the need to
6?-,@e accompany such emotions with bourbon rather than sparkling
d 1 O+qS mineral water.
^AT#A<{ 1( ( Li)@Cn% The pace picks up with the title track "Off the Radar" that

CYvV truly highlights Mr Kerr's pop sensibilities and offsets his

laidback vocal delivery with some spirited guitar. Loves lost
t`0(5v and won (mostly lost though? and a sense of reflection on his
TZ:dY x younger years seem a common theme to the songs in this album

" and, indeed, regret is once more evident in "Is It Too Late to
uzL IllVX* Work for NASA" even if it is disguised here with wry humour.

i{ 2rQy+ If Bluesbunny had to pick a favourite track, it would probably
'p(I!]"uo be "Amorino" evoking, as it does, the melancholic pleasures of
<*&2 b heartbreak.
E %> ){Y) |y7#D9m The thing that impresses most about this album is the songs
Q_n9}LanP themselves. Well crafted and melodic with sharp and observant
>5-]Ur~ lyrics, they are however presented as a whole lot fluffier
agW#"9]WM than they actually are. It must be Ally Kerr's choice to do so
ek4?|!kQD but it does seem that he is deliberately avoiding giving any
4S#q06=Xe kind of offense. Maybe he never gets angry himself - although
}!g^}BWWp his words suggest otherwise -but Bluesbunny feels that he is
iG;GAw |E doing his own songs a disservice here by sprinkling an inch of
Q[k7taoy icing sugar on everything. It is not necessary for everything
x FY;aK in life to have a cherry on top for it to be appetising.
]='E&=nc lS(?x|dO Overall, this is a happy, upbeat album that is just a bit too
PQRh5km polite and well mannered to try and force itself upon your
% zs 1v] affections. The production and arrangements are smoother than
|v} "UW(y your average Starbuck's decaf latte but it is perhaps fair
4>{q("r, comment to say that the omnipresent sugar coating will suit
1fQvh/2 his fans. However, and maybe this is a reviewer thing, a bit
gCgMmD=AZ of fire and even some unpredictability would have been
95aa welcome. Then again, the Bluesbunny was always a quadruple
xg'z_W espresso kind of guy.
