_jjW Glasgow's Ally Kerr does a nice line in pop songs and "Off the
$ OMGo`z Radar" provides us with the opportunity to enjoy 12 more of
c o!#. his little pop masterpieces.

W.AN0N polished pop perfection that brings back memories of the
g&"__~dS-F jaunty hits of the Housemartins and their catalogue of
C/Dc1sj intelligent and catchy songs. "I Think I'm Bleeding" has an
9 *}?0J8 underlying country flavour to it. Whilst once again presented
:K_JY as a happy little song, there is more than a touch of
}$|uIS bitterness in his words. Funnily enough, the rather twee "The
!jxz2Q Toothbrush Song" would also make a quality country song due to
za20Y?)[ its dry lyrics even if a cowboy would feel the need to
,kKMUshBi accompany such emotions with bourbon rather than sparkling
3M{/9rR[ mineral water.
0SBiMTm 64OgE! The pace picks up with the title track "Off the Radar" that
Vee`q. truly highlights Mr Kerr's pop sensibilities and offsets his
D=nuK25 laidback vocal delivery with some spirited guitar. Loves lost
7$7Y)&\5 w and won (mostly lost though? and a sense of reflection on his
[/ E_v gZ younger years seem a common theme to the songs in this album
wDV%.Cc and, indeed, regret is once more evident in "Is It Too Late to
w;(`!^xv Work for NASA" even if it is disguised here with wry humour.
qwU,D6 If Bluesbunny closes his eyes, on "Mystery Star" Ally Kerr
TY3WP$u seems to transform himself into Edinburgh master popsters
D'Gmua]I Dropkick and there are certainly worse things to be than that.
L.z`>1 If Bluesbunny had to pick a favourite track, it would probably
p}N IZ)]$ be "Amorino" evoking, as it does, the melancholic pleasures of

W=R u? sG= Q1Sf7) The thing that impresses most about this album is the songs

<n|zp themselves. Well crafted and melodic with sharp and observant
^ cn)eA lyrics, they are however presented as a whole lot fluffier
` AA[k than they actually are. It must be Ally Kerr's choice to do so
eJrJ5ml I` but it does seem that he is deliberately avoiding giving any
H}QOoXWkg kind of offense. Maybe he never gets angry himself - although
b_]14 v his words suggest otherwise -but Bluesbunny feels that he is
1e>,QX doing his own songs a disservice here by sprinkling an inch of
Zv*Z^; X9 icing sugar on everything. It is not necessary for everything
{g *kr1JM in life to have a cherry on top for it to be appetising.
~',< 7eW W|@/<K$V Overall, this is a happy, upbeat album that is just a bit too
{Ah\ -{] polite and well mannered to try and force itself upon your
r~uWr'}a} affections. The production and arrangements are smoother than
GyOo$FW your average Starbuck's decaf latte but it is perhaps fair
+_ HPZo comment to say that the omnipresent sugar coating will suit

F2GW his fans. However, and maybe this is a reviewer thing, a bit
joh=0 nk;D of fire and even some unpredictability would have been
<=*xwI&q welcome. Then again, the Bluesbunny was always a quadruple
+`==US34 espresso kind of guy.
