m4[ ;(1 underlying country flavour to it. Whilst once again presented
:(E@Gf as a happy little song, there is more than a touch of
b <tNk]7 bitterness in his words. Funnily enough, the rather twee "The
Z\(q@3 C Toothbrush Song" would also make a quality country song due to
$!-yr7 its dry lyrics even if a cowboy would feel the need to
3p$?,0ELH accompany such emotions with bourbon rather than sparkling
+N]J5Ve-`t mineral water.
Ucb F|vkI lwR<(u31e The pace picks up with the title track "Off the Radar" that
h! ,v/7= truly highlights Mr Kerr's pop sensibilities and offsets his

u laidback vocal delivery with some spirited guitar. Loves lost
NYhB'C2 and won (mostly lost though? and a sense of reflection on his
`T1 younger years seem a common theme to the songs in this album

+7 and, indeed, regret is once more evident in "Is It Too Late to
h y9\57_# Work for NASA" even if it is disguised here with wry humour.
IM*y|UHt If Bluesbunny closes his eyes, on "Mystery Star" Ally Kerr
2bz2KB5> seems to transform himself into Edinburgh master popsters

}ZYd4h|g\z If Bluesbunny had to pick a favourite track, it would probably
cUk7i`M;6 be "Amorino" evoking, as it does, the melancholic pleasures of
%64 )(z heartbreak.
3qgS&js 7 T}Tp$.gB The thing that impresses most about this album is the songs
E#34Wh2z themselves. Well crafted and melodic with sharp and observant
(le9q5Qr. lyrics, they are however presented as a whole lot fluffier
U)TUOwF than they actually are. It must be Ally Kerr's choice to do so
2y\E[j A but it does seem that he is deliberately avoiding giving any
Yu/ID!`Z kind of offense. Maybe he never gets angry himself - although
o)|flI'vT his words suggest otherwise -but Bluesbunny feels that he is
O^PKn_OJ
doing his own songs a disservice here by sprinkling an inch of
=[ 46`-_ icing sugar on everything. It is not necessary for everything
\& :nFb%= in life to have a cherry on top for it to be appetising.
0 J S?; fk A|[?#S((] Overall, this is a happy, upbeat album that is just a bit too
>=lC4Tu polite and well mannered to try and force itself upon your
mU C)gA/ affections. The production and arrangements are smoother than
eIF5ZPS Zi your average Starbuck's decaf latte but it is perhaps fair
KkyVSoD\ comment to say that the omnipresent sugar coating will suit
FXCMR\BsQ his fans. However, and maybe this is a reviewer thing, a bit
]m q|w of fire and even some unpredictability would have been
rKc9b< Ir welcome. Then again, the Bluesbunny was always a quadruple
