3<0b_b underlying country flavour to it. Whilst once again presented

e as a happy little song, there is more than a touch of
(`x_MTLL bitterness in his words. Funnily enough, the rather twee "The
6#=jF[ Toothbrush Song" would also make a quality country song due to
[GwAm>k its dry lyrics even if a cowboy would feel the need to
-9Q(3$} accompany such emotions with bourbon rather than sparkling
L kt4F mineral water.

p The pace picks up with the title track "Off the Radar" that
SeX ]|?D truly highlights Mr Kerr's pop sensibilities and offsets his
o2 /:e laidback vocal delivery with some spirited guitar. Loves lost
wq )*bIv and won (mostly lost though? and a sense of reflection on his
W ^( zP/ younger years seem a common theme to the songs in this album
b IDUa and, indeed, regret is once more evident in "Is It Too Late to
7- B.<$uC Work for NASA" even if it is disguised here with wry humour.
<I+k B^ Er If Bluesbunny closes his eyes, on "Mystery Star" Ally Kerr
9:j?Jvw$ seems to transform himself into Edinburgh master popsters
YagfCi ? Dropkick and there are certainly worse things to be than that.

5a If Bluesbunny had to pick a favourite track, it would probably
/<LZt<K be "Amorino" evoking, as it does, the melancholic pleasures of
e~r/!B5X heartbreak.
XJ18(Q|w' K$"#SZEi The thing that impresses most about this album is the songs
Ayz*2 N`% themselves. Well crafted and melodic with sharp and observant
> I2rj2M# lyrics, they are however presented as a whole lot fluffier
S|85g1}t than they actually are. It must be Ally Kerr's choice to do so
*t@A-Sn but it does seem that he is deliberately avoiding giving any
87 Z[0> kind of offense. Maybe he never gets angry himself - although
#mxOwvJ his words suggest otherwise -but Bluesbunny feels that he is
!Sc"V.o @! doing his own songs a disservice here by sprinkling an inch of
CSM"Kz` icing sugar on everything. It is not necessary for everything
AIF ?>wgq in life to have a cherry on top for it to be appetising.
6g(;2gY bLqy7S9x Overall, this is a happy, upbeat album that is just a bit too
agIqca; polite and well mannered to try and force itself upon your
DUp `zW;B affections. The production and arrangements are smoother than
p{f R$- d your average Starbuck's decaf latte but it is perhaps fair
HJL! ;i comment to say that the omnipresent sugar coating will suit
,OE&e* 1 his fans. However, and maybe this is a reviewer thing, a bit
tKbxC>w of fire and even some unpredictability would have been
/cjz=r1U> welcome. Then again, the Bluesbunny was always a quadruple

espresso kind of guy.
