v^W?o}W polished pop perfection that brings back memories of the
- `dxx)x jaunty hits of the Housemartins and their catalogue of
u rXb!e{l intelligent and catchy songs. "I Think I'm Bleeding" has an
fslk7RlSKg underlying country flavour to it. Whilst once again presented
NzAtdcwR as a happy little song, there is more than a touch of
mK40 f bitterness in his words. Funnily enough, the rather twee "The
^la i!uZVa Toothbrush Song" would also make a quality country song due to
LnTe_Q7_ its dry lyrics even if a cowboy would feel the need to
90iW-"l+[ accompany such emotions with bourbon rather than sparkling
l ~4e2xoT mineral water.
mnQjX ? 2${,%8"0s The pace picks up with the title track "Off the Radar" that
m0\"C-Bk truly highlights Mr Kerr's pop sensibilities and offsets his
n5k^v $' laidback vocal delivery with some spirited guitar. Loves lost
}gi1?a5
9 and won (mostly lost though? and a sense of reflection on his
"gN* J)!x younger years seem a common theme to the songs in this album
p
(xD/E and, indeed, regret is once more evident in "Is It Too Late to
_jrA?pY Work for NASA" even if it is disguised here with wry humour.
Z"~6yF If Bluesbunny closes his eyes, on "Mystery Star" Ally Kerr
,}IER seems to transform himself into Edinburgh master popsters
]2\2/~l Dropkick and there are certainly worse things to be than that.

9T&c8 5 If Bluesbunny had to pick a favourite track, it would probably
3TiXYH be "Amorino" evoking, as it does, the melancholic pleasures of

O&gwr 9[p }.9 / The thing that impresses most about this album is the songs

(b3Lq themselves. Well crafted and melodic with sharp and observant
Gj7QG IKx lyrics, they are however presented as a whole lot fluffier
=*:[(Py1 than they actually are. It must be Ally Kerr's choice to do so
Iz?W tm } but it does seem that he is deliberately avoiding giving any
s/G5w Rl< kind of offense. Maybe he never gets angry himself - although
{`K]sa7` his words suggest otherwise -but Bluesbunny feels that he is
h`EH~ W0:z doing his own songs a disservice here by sprinkling an inch of
S?nNZW\6[ icing sugar on everything. It is not necessary for everything
L\:YbS~ ] in life to have a cherry on top for it to be appetising.
^mgI%_?1 R!/,E Overall, this is a happy, upbeat album that is just a bit too
4-M6C 5#. polite and well mannered to try and force itself upon your
W}R = affections. The production and arrangements are smoother than
0$"Q&5 Y your average Starbuck's decaf latte but it is perhaps fair
[Yx-l;78 comment to say that the omnipresent sugar coating will suit
/R(U >pZ his fans. However, and maybe this is a reviewer thing, a bit
krr-ZiK of fire and even some unpredictability would have been
mU?&\ w=v$ welcome. Then again, the Bluesbunny was always a quadruple
