,Iru_=Wk~ Radar" provides us with the opportunity to enjoy 12 more of

^A=2#j~H\ WD5jO9Oai Opening the album is "Could Have Been a Contender" - all
: )y3 & I polished pop perfection that brings back memories of the
b \t?5z-Z jaunty hits of the Housemartins and their catalogue of
TEla?N intelligent and catchy songs. "I Think I'm Bleeding" has an
^x Z=";eq underlying country flavour to it. Whilst once again presented
Uu|2!}^T as a happy little song, there is more than a touch of
4b +_|kYb bitterness in his words. Funnily enough, the rather twee "The
VR'zm\< D Toothbrush Song" would also make a quality country song due to
>%5GMx>m its dry lyrics even if a cowboy would feel the need to
lk[u accompany such emotions with bourbon rather than sparkling
WpOH1[ 8v mineral water.
g][n1$% qC-4X"y+ The pace picks up with the title track "Off the Radar" that

\TO, truly highlights Mr Kerr's pop sensibilities and offsets his
5~$WSL?O) laidback vocal delivery with some spirited guitar. Loves lost
HIUP
=/x and won (mostly lost though? and a sense of reflection on his
zCv)%y younger years seem a common theme to the songs in this album
(1[Z#y[ and, indeed, regret is once more evident in "Is It Too Late to
lR/Ubo
yy Work for NASA" even if it is disguised here with wry humour.
XtE O ) If Bluesbunny closes his eyes, on "Mystery Star" Ally Kerr
{b-SK5%]L seems to transform himself into Edinburgh master popsters
a5(9~. 9 Dropkick and there are certainly worse things to be than that.

o) If Bluesbunny had to pick a favourite track, it would probably
|WNI[49 be "Amorino" evoking, as it does, the melancholic pleasures of
F$'p o# heartbreak.
KO/#t~ ^)o]hE| The thing that impresses most about this album is the songs
@V&HE:P themselves. Well crafted and melodic with sharp and observant
_Ea1;dJmq lyrics, they are however presented as a whole lot fluffier
IpM"k)HR than they actually are. It must be Ally Kerr's choice to do so
) NTpb but it does seem that he is deliberately avoiding giving any

AM/H4 kind of offense. Maybe he never gets angry himself - although
Nrq/Pkmy his words suggest otherwise -but Bluesbunny feels that he is
%TO& doing his own songs a disservice here by sprinkling an inch of
VF +g+~ icing sugar on everything. It is not necessary for everything
UG vUU<N|N in life to have a cherry on top for it to be appetising.
4pZKm-dM ^ "Xl"H /3r Overall, this is a happy, upbeat album that is just a bit too
jAovzZ6BL polite and well mannered to try and force itself upon your
%zR5q Lb affections. The production and arrangements are smoother than
WEoD ?GLS8 your average Starbuck's decaf latte but it is perhaps fair
=iB$4d2 comment to say that the omnipresent sugar coating will suit
;Zc0imYL his fans. However, and maybe this is a reviewer thing, a bit
qxcTY|& of fire and even some unpredictability would have been
N8,g~ ?r^ welcome. Then again, the Bluesbunny was always a quadruple
i>C%[dk9 espresso kind of guy.
