z0=Rp0_W intelligent and catchy songs. "I Think I'm Bleeding" has an
5~v(AB(x underlying country flavour to it. Whilst once again presented
Omp i ~ as a happy little song, there is more than a touch of
BLWA!- bitterness in his words. Funnily enough, the rather twee "The

\cRM Toothbrush Song" would also make a quality country song due to
wp A w/-/ its dry lyrics even if a cowboy would feel the need to
oc b%&m ;i accompany such emotions with bourbon rather than sparkling
/8 e2dw:
\ mineral water.
@>qx:jx(-S 8<E!rn- The pace picks up with the title track "Off the Radar" that
ZX~>uf\n truly highlights Mr Kerr's pop sensibilities and offsets his
lBizC5t!o laidback vocal delivery with some spirited guitar. Loves lost
^&f{beU9 and won (mostly lost though? and a sense of reflection on his
h(+m<J younger years seem a common theme to the songs in this album
_QC? :mv6- and, indeed, regret is once more evident in "Is It Too Late to
s$SU
vo1J Work for NASA" even if it is disguised here with wry humour.
=UI,+P: If Bluesbunny closes his eyes, on "Mystery Star" Ally Kerr

seems to transform himself into Edinburgh master popsters

yPzULO4 themselves. Well crafted and melodic with sharp and observant
K&\BwBU lyrics, they are however presented as a whole lot fluffier

i than they actually are. It must be Ally Kerr's choice to do so
H(5ui`' s but it does seem that he is deliberately avoiding giving any
D@lAT#vA kind of offense. Maybe he never gets angry himself - although
@ LkW_ his words suggest otherwise -but Bluesbunny feels that he is
"ojD f3@{ doing his own songs a disservice here by sprinkling an inch of
DoCQFSL icing sugar on everything. It is not necessary for everything
go%X%Os] in life to have a cherry on top for it to be appetising.
W O \lny! $.3CiM }~ Overall, this is a happy, upbeat album that is just a bit too
*C:q _ / polite and well mannered to try and force itself upon your
1 [~| affections. The production and arrangements are smoother than
I}g|n0o your average Starbuck's decaf latte but it is perhaps fair
^B"_b?b comment to say that the omnipresent sugar coating will suit
te)g',#lT his fans. However, and maybe this is a reviewer thing, a bit
J 1y2Qw$ G of fire and even some unpredictability would have been

&ZZg welcome. Then again, the Bluesbunny was always a quadruple

espresso kind of guy.
