[x9t underlying country flavour to it. Whilst once again presented
HA J[Y3d< as a happy little song, there is more than a touch of
z`qb>Y"xf3 bitterness in his words. Funnily enough, the rather twee "The
ZEp>~dn; Toothbrush Song" would also make a quality country song due to
BTzBT%mP its dry lyrics even if a cowboy would feel the need to
bUsX ~R- accompany such emotions with bourbon rather than sparkling
<~*[OwN mineral water.
VFrp7;z43 yq?\.~ax The pace picks up with the title track "Off the Radar" that
<vE|QxpR truly highlights Mr Kerr's pop sensibilities and offsets his
_!_^B laidback vocal delivery with some spirited guitar. Loves lost
~ _hA{$ and won (mostly lost though? and a sense of reflection on his
`W >Sss younger years seem a common theme to the songs in this album
Ge @qvP_ and, indeed, regret is once more evident in "Is It Too Late to
QE8 `nMf Work for NASA" even if it is disguised here with wry humour.
y^e3Gyk If Bluesbunny closes his eyes, on "Mystery Star" Ally Kerr
V.9p4k` seems to transform himself into Edinburgh master popsters

; Dropkick and there are certainly worse things to be than that.
3GNcn b If Bluesbunny had to pick a favourite track, it would probably
#K`0b $ be "Amorino" evoking, as it does, the melancholic pleasures of
+J85Re ` heartbreak.
k dWU z( /k[ 8xb The thing that impresses most about this album is the songs
o*artMkG themselves. Well crafted and melodic with sharp and observant
@`#x:
p: lyrics, they are however presented as a whole lot fluffier
C(9"59>{]y than they actually are. It must be Ally Kerr's choice to do so
f`KO#Wc but it does seem that he is deliberately avoiding giving any
Fg 8lX9L kind of offense. Maybe he never gets angry himself - although
E]8u j8K3] his words suggest otherwise -but Bluesbunny feels that he is
_R b2jq(&0 doing his own songs a disservice here by sprinkling an inch of
{NQCe0S+p icing sugar on everything. It is not necessary for everything
+zd /< in life to have a cherry on top for it to be appetising.
0{ua SR g~b$WV% Overall, this is a happy, upbeat album that is just a bit too

H.k<zn polite and well mannered to try and force itself upon your
t, dm3+R affections. The production and arrangements are smoother than
M| j=J{r your average Starbuck's decaf latte but it is perhaps fair
|:&O!36 comment to say that the omnipresent sugar coating will suit
MoQ\~/Z| his fans. However, and maybe this is a reviewer thing, a bit
SE43C %hv of fire and even some unpredictability would have been
/:G y . welcome. Then again, the Bluesbunny was always a quadruple
utBrH espresso kind of guy.
