g0Ff$-#7 polished pop perfection that brings back memories of the
rP7[{'%r jaunty hits of the Housemartins and their catalogue of
?=dp]E{ intelligent and catchy songs. "I Think I'm Bleeding" has an
jY +u OH underlying country flavour to it. Whilst once again presented
eVetG,[" as a happy little song, there is more than a touch of
S=@bb$4-T bitterness in his words. Funnily enough, the rather twee "The
Po1/_# mu Toothbrush Song" would also make a quality country song due to
zgnZ7 2% its dry lyrics even if a cowboy would feel the need to

\n3[u accompany such emotions with bourbon rather than sparkling
TS Ev^
u)3 mineral water.
\+T U{vr b3M`vJ+{ The pace picks up with the title track "Off the Radar" that
r1A<XP|1?I truly highlights Mr Kerr's pop sensibilities and offsets his
Aw) I:d7F laidback vocal delivery with some spirited guitar. Loves lost
gy*c$[NS$ and won (mostly lost though? and a sense of reflection on his
_Oc(K
"v younger years seem a common theme to the songs in this album
Re<@ .d and, indeed, regret is once more evident in "Is It Too Late to
( ~
`?_ Work for NASA" even if it is disguised here with wry humour.
Ef]<0Tm]: If Bluesbunny closes his eyes, on "Mystery Star" Ally Kerr
xa[)fk$6 seems to transform himself into Edinburgh master popsters
eq6>C7 .$ Dropkick and there are certainly worse things to be than that.

:kVo If Bluesbunny had to pick a favourite track, it would probably
x+8%4]u` be "Amorino" evoking, as it does, the melancholic pleasures of
<f9a%`d heartbreak.
eqSCE6r9x O)8$aAJ)V The thing that impresses most about this album is the songs
{WvYb, themselves. Well crafted and melodic with sharp and observant
g% _ 3 lyrics, they are however presented as a whole lot fluffier
dlRTxb^Y>u than they actually are. It must be Ally Kerr's choice to do so

aVE but it does seem that he is deliberately avoiding giving any
_ -|+k kind of offense. Maybe he never gets angry himself - although
/d*[za'0 his words suggest otherwise -but Bluesbunny feels that he is
8gxo{<,9 doing his own songs a disservice here by sprinkling an inch of
9T_fq56Oh6 icing sugar on everything. It is not necessary for everything
`O]$ FpO in life to have a cherry on top for it to be appetising.
AD~_n ^ : ?j]W2+kR Overall, this is a happy, upbeat album that is just a bit too
'Ll'8 ps polite and well mannered to try and force itself upon your
|pZ:5ta# affections. The production and arrangements are smoother than
aA]wFZ your average Starbuck's decaf latte but it is perhaps fair
x~ID[ comment to say that the omnipresent sugar coating will suit
G i\Z"MiBZ his fans. However, and maybe this is a reviewer thing, a bit
2O}X-/H of fire and even some unpredictability would have been
?u5jX J0L welcome. Then again, the Bluesbunny was always a quadruple
#~4;yY\$I espresso kind of guy.
