2u I`$A: polished pop perfection that brings back memories of the
ie$fMBIq jaunty hits of the Housemartins and their catalogue of
;X9MA=b intelligent and catchy songs. "I Think I'm Bleeding" has an
MJ*oeI!.= underlying country flavour to it. Whilst once again presented
n@ yd{Rc as a happy little song, there is more than a touch of
'vf,T4uQ" bitterness in his words. Funnily enough, the rather twee "The
,M+h9_&0? Toothbrush Song" would also make a quality country song due to
S7\ |/h :4 its dry lyrics even if a cowboy would feel the need to
;6\Ski0=l accompany such emotions with bourbon rather than sparkling
e>)}_b mineral water.
:5q*46 n @; j0c_^"! The pace picks up with the title track "Off the Radar" that
z m_hLk truly highlights Mr Kerr's pop sensibilities and offsets his
g,z&{pZch laidback vocal delivery with some spirited guitar. Loves lost

| and won (mostly lost though? and a sense of reflection on his
\nWzn4f younger years seem a common theme to the songs in this album
] aL [ and, indeed, regret is once more evident in "Is It Too Late to
|Ls&~'ik Work for NASA" even if it is disguised here with wry humour.
8WLh]MD` If Bluesbunny closes his eyes, on "Mystery Star" Ally Kerr
^<5^9]x seems to transform himself into Edinburgh master popsters

%n V@'3EI If Bluesbunny had to pick a favourite track, it would probably
r* be "Amorino" evoking, as it does, the melancholic pleasures of
R - ?0k: heartbreak.
%_i0go, ^ h QW#a]]V: The thing that impresses most about this album is the songs
$[^ KCNB themselves. Well crafted and melodic with sharp and observant
=t>`< T|( lyrics, they are however presented as a whole lot fluffier
ZRVF{D??"% than they actually are. It must be Ally Kerr's choice to do so
-*]9Ma<wa but it does seem that he is deliberately avoiding giving any
[{.\UkV@ kind of offense. Maybe he never gets angry himself - although
+kdU%Sm his words suggest otherwise -but Bluesbunny feels that he is
Ff1M~MhG doing his own songs a disservice here by sprinkling an inch of
*{4{<O<4 icing sugar on everything. It is not necessary for everything
sN[@mAoH in life to have a cherry on top for it to be appetising.

G9C Overall, this is a happy, upbeat album that is just a bit too
< 8W:ij.` polite and well mannered to try and force itself upon your
A%sxMA!K, affections. The production and arrangements are smoother than
,2:L{8_L your average Starbuck's decaf latte but it is perhaps fair
!&`7 comment to say that the omnipresent sugar coating will suit
"b+3 &i| his fans. However, and maybe this is a reviewer thing, a bit
ud~VQXZo of fire and even some unpredictability would have been
BYA=M*f welcome. Then again, the Bluesbunny was always a quadruple
{ &JurZ espresso kind of guy.
