=!Y{Mz as a happy little song, there is more than a touch of

u4 bitterness in his words. Funnily enough, the rather twee "The

nXoL Toothbrush Song" would also make a quality country song due to
QCWk [Gx its dry lyrics even if a cowboy would feel the need to
? |9$o/Q} accompany such emotions with bourbon rather than sparkling
P1l@K2r mineral water.
}UWRH.;v /C}fE]n{X The pace picks up with the title track "Off the Radar" that
+#<"o#gZ truly highlights Mr Kerr's pop sensibilities and offsets his
=<[ZFO~v laidback vocal delivery with some spirited guitar. Loves lost
s2ys>2k and won (mostly lost though? and a sense of reflection on his
^5~[G%G4 younger years seem a common theme to the songs in this album
$T0|zPK5 and, indeed, regret is once more evident in "Is It Too Late to
rzqUI*4% Work for NASA" even if it is disguised here with wry humour.
7e"(]NC84 If Bluesbunny closes his eyes, on "Mystery Star" Ally Kerr
!f\6=Z?>3 seems to transform himself into Edinburgh master popsters
@]h#T4z' Dropkick and there are certainly worse things to be than that.

/qL&)24 themselves. Well crafted and melodic with sharp and observant
y6?Q5x9M lyrics, they are however presented as a whole lot fluffier
GO wd=]e than they actually are. It must be Ally Kerr's choice to do so
q+o(`N'~G but it does seem that he is deliberately avoiding giving any
I>-jKSkwc kind of offense. Maybe he never gets angry himself - although
6CU8BDN his words suggest otherwise -but Bluesbunny feels that he is
^HL#)fK2I doing his own songs a disservice here by sprinkling an inch of
X>|.BvY| icing sugar on everything. It is not necessary for everything
1^zF/$% in life to have a cherry on top for it to be appetising.
Z9aDE@A g%=\Wiit] Overall, this is a happy, upbeat album that is just a bit too
oaBfq8,; polite and well mannered to try and force itself upon your

<K# affections. The production and arrangements are smoother than
=C\S6bF% your average Starbuck's decaf latte but it is perhaps fair
r$\g6m comment to say that the omnipresent sugar coating will suit
x{ZVq 4 his fans. However, and maybe this is a reviewer thing, a bit

1 of fire and even some unpredictability would have been
3 ^su%z_% welcome. Then again, the Bluesbunny was always a quadruple
